Nor is it primarily a social occasion\, we do not serve food or drink. We explore Christian spirituality\, its application to our personal lives and to our engagement with the wider world we inhabit. It is a small\, supportive group; a safe environment for “spiritual conversation”. We hope to provide a source of support for individuals in their personal struggles with matters of faith and practice. Our meetings are led by members of the group on a rotating basis\, with the facilitator providing a brief reading\, reflection\, or question to focus the discussion for the evening. Deborah Streeter as “Minister for Blue Theology\,” in support of ocean conservation and stewardship\, on Sunday July 10 at 2 pm.  26 Florido\, LSB.  All are welcome.\n \n“Our church is full of people who love the ocean.  We believe that our faith includes a responsibility to care for this precious ocean gift.  Deborah is a long time minister and friend of our church who in recent years has developed a special ministry on behalf of ocean stewardship and spirituality.  She leads retreats\, pilgrimages\, writes and preaches about how God loves the ocean and wants us to do a better job loving it.  We are proud to sponsor her ministry with the wider Monterey Bay community.”\n \nDeborah is a volunteer guide at the Monterey Bay Aquarium\, Point Lobos and served for nine years on the Advisory Council of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary.  She has taught at Pacific School of Religion and in Santa Clara University’s Environmental Studies Dept.\n \nThe United Church of Christ\, like many faith communities\, has long advocated for “care of creation” environmental ministry\, but Deborah’s is the first one specifically focused on oceans and coastlines.  Deborah coined the term “Blue Theology” after seeing so many books and conferences on “Green Theology.”  Since our planet is 75% ocean\, as are our bodies\, she believes environmental ministry must be “blue.”

DESCRIPTION:We begin a three part series facilitated by Hospice of Santa Cruz\, entitled\, “Living Well\, Dying Well.” This first evening will be a showing of the movie “Being Mortal” by Atul Gawande\, followed by a short discussion. Dr. Gawande raises important issues around medical care for the dying and the discomfort the medical profession often has discussing chronic illness and death with their patients. An important film for those caring for the aging and those who want to be able to make informed choices. This series is free and we encourage you to invite community members who might be interested in this topic.

DESCRIPTION:Join us as we gather in the courtyard at 9:50 for worship instructions and a palm processional into the sanctuary.  Our worship begins with a celebration of Jesus’ joyous entry into Jerusalem\, and ends on a sober note as the story of Jesus’ passion is told through music and narrative.   Communion will be celebrated\, with a special opportunity for students completing class to gather around the Table with their parents. A mid-eastern style coffeehouse will follow.
