SUMMARY:Braiding Sweetgrass
DESCRIPTION:Summer Book Study: Braiding Sweetgrass \nI’d like to invite you to read one of my\n2 favorite books with me: Braiding\nSweetgrass\, by Robin Wall Kimmerer.\n(The other book is a childhood favorite\nabout a girl with a sword.) Braiding\nSweetgrass puts into words many of the\nIndigenous teachings that inform my life\,\nwork\, and spiritual practice. I’d like to\nread it together as an opportunity to\nshare with you a resource that buoys my\nspirit when the world feels like too\nmuch.\nRobin Wall Kimmerer is a Potawatomi\nbotanist\, author\, and professor at the\nState University of New York College of Environmental Science and\nForestry. Her book weaves together traditional Potawatomi and\nscientific knowledge\, giving voice to the natural world\, and deepening\nour understanding of our place within it. She is an incredibly gifted\nstoryteller\, and I encourage you to consider listening to the audiobook\,\nas her voice makes the stories she tells come even more alive.\nReading and Discussion Schedule\nWe will gather in the sanctuary for an hour after coffee hour\, staring\naround 11:30am to discuss the following sections:\nJune 14 – Preface and Planing Sweetgrass (pgs. ix-59)\nJune 28 – Tending Sweetgrass (pgs. 61-117)\nJuly 5 – Picking Sweetgrass (pgs. 119-201)\nJuly 12 – Braiding Sweetgrass (p. 203-300)\nJuly 19 – Burning Sweetgrass\, Epilogue and Notes (p 301-386)\nI know it is summer\, and not everyone will be able to make every\ndiscussion. Not everyone reads (or listens) at the same speed\, and you\nmay not have read as far as everyone else when Sunday comes around.\nPlease come when you can anyway!
